Children’s Classes (7-12 year olds, 9-13year olds)

Children’s classes offer low class sizes and a flexible creative environment. All materials are provided unless specified and our teaching artists art professionals with full background checks and extensive teaching experience.

Enjoy multi-media workshops including art you can wear, pottery, painting and more! Classes range from 1.5 – 4.0 hour time increments. During your child’s  art class they will  create multiple projects in your theme choice and explore creative problem solving. All classes work on art concepts and building confidence in art skills.

Single Day Workshops

 

Mixed Media and Printmaking – Characters 

Learn about printmaking and create a collagraph, monoprint and linocut print of a fun character that you make up. Make copies for yourself and for the other kids in your group. Collect all the characters. Create a mixed media collage folder to hold all your creations from the day.

Landscape Collages 

Design your own colorful landscape. Sort different colors of patterned paper, fabrics, found materials, and magazines. Discover the parts of a landscape, draw your own and learn to use acrylic medium to create a strong layered surface. During this workshop we will talk about composition, color, and mood. Who lives in your landscape? Also, create paper figures that can live in and out of your creative landscape.

Coil Pot Patterns 

Clay can be rolled and joined in all types of fun patterns including: leaf shape, balls, triangles, spirals, braids, and more. Create all these clay patterns and join into a coil pot vase. This workshop also includes a bowl on the pottery wheel. Both projects will be glazed during the workshop.

Spooky Spectacular 

Create pumpkin characters out of model magic, paint, pipe cleaners, and more. We’ll also be creating a spooky canvas painting and spider web crafts.

Printmaking Inspired by Nature

Create a series of linocut prints to trade with fellow classmates. We’ll provide many different botanical flowers and insects to choose from as well as teach older kids how to carve linocuts to print. Also during this workshop, create a cyanotype or sun print that you can develop yourself in the sun.

Giving Thanks

This workshop will focus on giving thanks, we will read We are Grateful by Tracy Sorrell and talk about indigenous art. Create talking sticks, we’ll practice being good listeners, and Kachina dolls for telling our stories. Also in this workshop create a small woven basket.

Clay for the Holidays

What is a slab, a coil, a glaze? Create clay structures, including clay gift boxes and heart bowls on the pottery wheel. All pottery will be glazed or painted during the workshop and will be available for pickup 3 weeks following the workshop.

Create several beautiful gifts to give to others during the holidays and wrapping paper to bundle everything up. Make polymer clay jewelry, painted picture frames with one of a kind art, a creative canvas, and more top secret gifts to share. Children love to create things for their loved ones which is why we’ve started offering this each year, expect new projects and creations.

Drawing Hogwarts and More for 7-12 year olds

You don’t have to have read or watched Harry Potter to love the story about a school of wizards and enjoy drawing and painting the magical places in the series. Draw and paint dragons or enchanted unicorns, the characters, and Hogwarts itself. This is a three class series so that we can dive into the books and let our creativity run wild.

Anime Art

Learn to create your own anime self portrait as well as your favorite comic book characters including Pokemon. With the help of your instructor, all will learn about different facial expressions, poses and hairstyles to create portraits and characters they know, or have imagined themselves.
