Children’s Classes 5 -12 yrs

Children’s classes offer low class sizes and a flexible creative environment. All materials are provided unless specified and our teaching artists art professionals with full background checks and extensive teaching experience.

Art Days

Enjoy a day in the studio creating art you can wear, pottery, painting and more! During your child’s  art studio day they will get a healthy snack, create multiple projects in your theme choice and explore creative problem solving. (note, a few workshops are listed as 1/2 day from 1 – 4pm)

Characters and Comics

This class will focus on character development and storytelling. Over the session, we will experiment with different illustration techniques and design a cast of characters. Through drawing and writing exercises, we will develop our characters’ personalities, backstories and create the world they live in. Complete a cast of characters and a comic that tells a story.

Drawing and Painting Fairy Tales (half day)

Take a trip though the fantastical illustrations of fairy tales. Create illustrations of heroes and villains that have become a part of everyday folktale. Learn more about drawing people, working in pencil, watercolor and acrylic paint. Stories include The Frog Princess by Hans Christian Andersen, The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein and /or Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl. Explore and create stories together.

World Explorers 

Travel the world and learn about different art traditions in different countries. Visit China, Africa, Mexico and more. In this mixed media class students will draw, paint and build. Some projects include three-dimensional African villages, painted animal Molas and simple kites, did you know the kite was invented in China?

Mixed Media and Printmaking

Creating a collage is art is easy and fun! Children will layer all kinds of fun textural paper and small low relief objects to create projects that include  mixed media postcards, animal paintings on canvas and painted collages with handmade stamps.

Under the Sea and Coral Reefs

Come learn about endangered coral reefs and under the sea around the world and make nature inspired art with meaning and purpose. Students will sculpt Coral Reef inspired landscapes and under the sea sea creatures in clay and draw and paint a creative underwater world.

The Great Outdoors

Do you want to go on a bear hunt? Paint a wild realistic bear, construct a bouquet of paper flowers and draw and paint a beautiful watercolor landscape. The great outdoors is full of inspiration!

Up-cycled Mosaics and More

During this class we’ll turn trash to treasures. Spend time constructing with found objects, wooden pieces and recyclables. Also during this class we’ll dabble in two mosaic techniques, additive found object mosaics and traditional glass mosaic picture frames.

Awesome Poses Figures in Action

This class will focus on drawing moving figures that can interact and tell a story. This class will cover sketching figures in proportion, adding anatomic form and figure expressions. Expect to draw several practice drawings and at least two final figures interacting, create a three dimensional figure model and have fun!

NEW Small Group Clay Exploration for Children

Explore hand-building projects and the pottery wheel. Each class is limited to six participants and will include a combination of student choice and guided instruction. Each class each student will have the chance to work on the pottery wheel.

Get ready to relax dolls and wear your terry cloth bathrobe made by in class. Also create slippers and enjoy taking it easy with nail polish for dolls and girls (optional), cucumbers for your eyes and rollers for your hair.
