Children’s Classes 5 -12 yrs

Children’s classes offer low class sizes and a flexible creative environment. All materials are provided unless specified and our teaching artists art professionals with full background checks and extensive teaching experience.

Art Days

Enjoy a day in the studio creating art you can wear, pottery, painting and more! During your child’s  art studio day they will get a healthy snack, create multiple projects in your theme choice and explore creative problem solving.

Spin the Wheel 

Create multiple projects on the pottery wheel with the guidance of an instructor. Create a chip and dip platter and additional bowl, mug or vase. Also during this day of fun with clay create a summer bird feeder.

Mixed Media Adventures with Animals

A whole day to create. Create clay animals, paper mache masks and animal canvas paintings. Learn a little about a variety of animals, where they live, what they eat and what you can do to protect animals.

Harry Potter Day

Enjoy experiencing the story of  Harry Potter though art. Create clay sorting hats, monster books, paintings of Hedwig, magic wands and more. Even create frosty potions for snack.

My Secret Garden

Create artwork all about nature: birds paintings on canvas, butterfly clay picture frames and multi-media collage flowers. This a multimedia day full of activity and fun.

Project Runway

Learn the basic use of a sewing machine including how to thread a needle and bobbin. Get an introduction of garment construction and learn terms like stitch, seam allowance, gather, hem and pleat. Create a design on paper and with the help of an instructor construct your own vision.  Art Lab will provide sewing machines, white thread, extra bedazzling fabrics and other drawing and sewing supplies. Students must bring one yard cotton print and one yard cotton or cotton blend solid fabric of their choice, preferably washed and ironed out in advance.

Maximum 6 students (each will get use of their own sewing machine)

Clay and Sculptural Creatures

A whole day to sculpt and build. Create clay creature mugs using the pottery wheel and creative hand-built clay fish. Make cardboard and mixed media animal masks and paint. Get creative  and sketch then make a Joan Miro inspired air-dry clay stacking creature construction.

S.T.E.M – Robots and Movement

An interactive day children will spend out of their seats making things that move including robots that utilize toothbrush motors and talk a look at electric circuits. Also, catapults, balloon cars with races and ramps and marble runs as time allows.

Drawing and Painting People and Myself

Create life sized paintings on paper of yourself with fun and colorful backgrounds. Create portraits in different styles and media influenced by artist Amedeo Modigliani, the power of line, color and children’s imagination.

Create several beautiful gifts to give to others during the holidays and wrapping paper to bundle everything up. Make mosaic coasters, painted picture frames with one of a kind art, a creative canvas and more top secret gifts to share.

18” Dolls Fashion Workshops

Bring an 18” doll or slightly smaller doll as your special guest for these workshop.

Fairies 

Create a fairy costume for your doll complete with a tulle skirt and glittery wings, wand and flower crown. Also create a fairy wand for yourself.

Get into the Groove  

Create a t-dye shirt for you and your doll. Cut a denim vest and do some simple sewing to make a skirt for your doll.

Halloween Fun

Create costumes for your doll to wear over the month of Halloween. Create a scary or a beautiful good witches costume. Create hats, a tulle and fabric dress and a trick or treat bag for you and your doll.

Getting Ready for Winter

Create a fleece jacket or vest for you doll and a simple fleece hat. Also make a knitting loom from a paper towel tube and popsicle sticks. You can knit a scarf for your doll!

Time to get dressed up! Create holiday inspired dresses for your doll and necklaces for yourself and your doll.

Ripple Mobile Art Programs at The Art Lab

Pottery Wheel Fusion Adventures

Create your own clay project by hand-building and combine with the pottery wheel.  Decorate all the details with both glaze and fused glass! Learn to use frit, rods, stringers and shards of glass, all to create a beautiful spring glass tile. Display or give as a gift!  All projects will be fired and delivered about 3-4 weeks after class.
