Acrylic Canvas Painting
How do you get started with painting? Learn the names of different types of brushes and what types of marks they leave. Discus a famous work of art and what makes it special. Set up your own still life using vases, flowers and more. Follow along with an instructor following basic rules for painting and drawing while having fun with paint. Included in this workshop is an 11 x 14″ painting.
Ladybug Rocks and Socks
Celebrate Spring with the coolest lady bug hand stamped red socks, made by your own Daisy’s! Stamp and add felt antennae, legs and eyes. Also, paint ladybug rocks to decorate your gardens.

Experiment with tons of wacky watercolor techniques. Learn about color, texture, and combining the variety of painting techniques. Explore properties of water as you learn to apply washes, wet on wet, dry brush, blend, spray, and splatter to create truly one of-a-kind paintings. Girl’s Rock Guitar Painting Design
Want to have a rock’in good time? Girls will design their own guitars to hang in their room. Instruction will include examples of some amazing painted guitars and placement of parts of a guitar. Sharpies, stencils, stickers and acrylic paint will be used.

Fused Glass and Clay Jewelry
Every girl will create beads out of clay and a pin out of fused glass! After items are returned you will have your own necklace, bracelet and pin to wear. All items will be fired and returned for pickup about 2-3 weeks after class.

All Girls will create their very own glass tile fish and magnet to be hung up. All items will be fired and returned for pickup about 2-3 weeks after class.

Gardens and Flowers
Turn a planter of dirt into a magical garden for fairies. Create a house, fence and decorate your garden with accessories made from air-dry clay, craft sticks, gems, pebbles and other assorted materials. Also, create a small fairy for your garden from synthetic flower petals, cloth pins, fabrics and more. Girls will plant seeds in their gardens and we will discuss seed care. Troop leaders use this activity toward your gardening badges, badge not included.
Here’s to flowers of all kind! Create your own handmade plantable paper circles from a variety of papers, flower seeds and dried flower petals that can actually be planted and grown outside. Create “impostor” flower bouquets from tissue papers, egg cartons and papers. Become a flower child by creating your own tie-dye bandana.
S.T.E.M. and Art
Work with objects to create your own catapult. We will explore the science and ans
engineering that goes into the design of the catapult. Create a unique design with
castle walls, space age rocket, vehicle, futuristic design and more to choose from.
Then we can have a distance challenge to see how far they work!

Learn about wind energy and create your very own high flying kite! Design, color and assemble with the step by step method to making your own kite.
Geology and Clay
Learn where clay comes from. Explore rocks that make up clay. See the layers of
rocks that make up our earth. Know what clay can be used for. Then create your
very own clay project! You can choose between a plate, tile or picture frame. All
made from scratch. Items will be delivered about 3-4 weeks after class.
Puppet Art and Storytelling
Learn about puppetry and puppet construction. Develop and create a mixed media puppet from air dry cloud clay, fabric, wire and wooden spoons. Small groups will create a story and design a stage. Let’s put on a show! This workshop includes a take home puppet.

What exactly is the difference between a myth and a legend, a folktale and a tall tale? Create your own character and story with painted illustrations; then, turn your pages into a handmade book. This workshop includes a one of a kind book by your child.

Create a hard-back journal from book board, decorative paper, glue and thread. Learn about the parts of a bound book and sew pieces together using a Japanese binding technique. Once finished think about what to create for the inside of your books, choose from poetry, collage or story writing options.
Brownies – Senior
Learn about the visual tricks comic artists use to tell stories: showing time, movement through space and drawing figures. Create your own character panel with supporting background images, text and landscape. Ink and color your drawings and share with friends.

Create a clay project by hand and on the pottery wheel. Potter Jeremy South takes you step by step through building bowls on the potter’s wheel and plates, picture frames or turtles by hand. My commitment to personal attention and simplified instruction has made the classes enjoyable for all ages. Projects take 3-4 weeks for pick up or delivery to or by the troop leader.
Elephants on Parade in Clay!
Create a clay project by hand and on the pottery wheel. Potter Jeremy South takes you step by step through building an elephant by hand and vase (in the shape of a hollow tree) on the pottery wheel. Girls will learn about elephants and all the common things they share with us. Projects take 3-4 weeks for pick up or delivery. Included in the fee is a fun badge. Create a clay project by hand and on the pottery wheel. Potter Jeremy South takes you step by step through building a log cabin by hand and mug on the pottery wheel. Girls will learn a little about log cabins and how they were constructed. Warm up with hot chocolate in your mug! Projects take 3-4 weeks for pick up or delivery.

Personalize canvas purses with embroidery, fabric, flowers and fringe as well as decorate a headband. Experience the sewing machine and create a small pocket to add to your fabulous fashions. This workshop includes a small purse and headband. Time for a fashion show.
Shirts, skirts and accessories, it is time to design and make special clothes for Barbie or 18″ dolls as well learn what exactly fashion designers do in the real world. Patterns are available for dolls and hand sewing techniques will be offered. Glue, sequins, beads and feathers will also be incorporated. Bring your favorite doll and let’s go.

What is a fiber and how are they made? Make, dye and assemble your own felted fiber and experiment with different stamping, resist and embroidery techniques. Experience the sewing machine and create a small pocket to add to your fabulous fashions. This is a two part workshop and will end with an exciting fashion show. This workshop includes a small felted purse, dyed scarf.

Create a hand sewn crazy quilt sampler that incorporates many different skills textile artists use from embroidery, button sewing and types of fabrics as well as learn the parts of a quilt. Together, stitch these samplers into reusable tote bags. Dye a bandana in colorful tie-dye and talk about the steps needed to set color. What else could you use to dye fabric at home?
Spread a peaceful message and beautiful work of art through the mail. Transform a small box with colorful papers, sharpies and collage papers with a message that will brighten anyone’s day and make them feel special. Inside include a personal message and good luck charm on a necklace of paper beads. Bring a address with you and we’ll deliver your works of art to the post office. Included in this fee is a fun badge.

A totally fun workshop! Children will love playing with this additive mosaic method. Using a variety of materials, broken plates, game pieces, marbles, glass shapes, toys, keyboard letters and more! create a up-cycled, one of a kind and quirky and beautiful art work. Brownie – Senior
Learn about basic circuitry by investigating the parts that make up an electric toothbrush: on / off switch, battery, vibrating motor and connecting circuits. Create a moving robot from various parts including toothbrush components, jello cups, ping-pong balls, tapes, metallic pipe cleaners and stickers. These charming robots are great introductions to robotics and making moving objects and inventions. (one hour workshop)

Complete a mosaic coaster with colorful square and triangular ceramic or glass squares. Girls will glue, grout and clean their own coasters to take home. Also, we’ll integrate some hands on math concepts. What fraction, percent and decimal of each color used can be concluded? Examples of symmetry will be introduced. Why Steam? STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)+ Art (Creative Thinking and Problem-solving)= STEAM. Included in the workshop is a fun badge.
Brownies and Juniors
Beans and seeds can be used for more than planting and eating. Seeds come in a variety of colors, textures and patterns and are used to create art in many cultures. Let’s look at some interesting seed art, arrange and glue a variety of natural beans and seeds including lentils, mung beans, millet, pinto and navy beans, wheat berries, black-eyed peas and more. Pick from some simple template designs, learn to glue and arrange beans and seeds and take away a beautiful work of art. Included in this workshop is an Art Lab fun patch.

Art Lab Letter-Boxing Days at the IMA –
Letter boxing is the ultimate treasure hunt! Search for small boxes hidden on the IMA grounds, follow the clues, decipher codes and stamp your own small notebook or passport with stamps left in hidden letterbox sites. Create your own stamp and leave behind your mark, hide the box again and let others leave their stamps too! Before you leave pick up your own letterbox and stamp, hide it and leave a clue card for others to find your troops’ letterbox site. Included is an Art Lab fun patch, your own personal handmade stamp and a Letter boxing journal or passport. Meet promptly at the IMA Visitor’s Center in the 100 acre park. Use the 100 acre park entrance off 38th street and allow 5-10 minutes to hike out to the Visitor’s Center.

Sew Sew Sew, Happy Holidays
Sew a simple stocking on the sewing machine and embellish with embroidery, fabric, fringe and jingle bells as well as decorate a holiday headband. Also enjoy some hot chocolate as you stay warm inside The Art Lab. Make these items for yourself or give a gift made by hand. Included in the fee is a fun badge.
Barbie Holiday Event
Design and create a holiday ensemble for Barbie. We’ll take you step by step though the process of working with a simple pattern and sewing a holiday gown, shirt, skirt and jacket. Choose from a wide variety of festive fabrics, sequins, beads, and laces to create a special couture outfit. Take her for treats! Tables will be turned into mini runways and hot chocolate and cookies will be served. Environmental Mixed Media Paintings
Friedensreich Hundertwasser was extremely successful painter and architect, who throughout his career, was interested in a humane environment that was close to nature. Celebrate Earth day at The Art Lab! Create a 11” x 14” canvas board painting of flowers in the style of Hundertwasser that incorporate recycled materials such as C-D’s, bottle caps and cut paper towel tubes. These mixed media paintings will be painted in colorful acrylic paints.
Celebrate Earth Day at The Art Lab by creating sculptural litterbugs from recyclables including newspaper, paper-mache, sponges, straws and more. Learn about what parts you need to make an insect as well as how your litter bugs could help teach others to keep the environment clean. During the workshop create a short written response about your litterbug.
Cub Scout Art Belt Loop – Animal Edition
Let’s learn some basics of drawing using animals. Create six dynamic animal studies focusing on a different element of design: snake / line, shapes and circles / frogs and water ripples, cats / patterns, fish / textures, elephant / balance and shark / perspective. Choose your favorite animal study to create your own unique colorful painting. Scouts will get some demonstrations on color relationships and practice mixing primary and secondary colors.
